Preventing Cavities with Xylitol

Read Now

Did you know there is actually a natural sweetener that’s good for your teeth?

It’s called xylitol, spelled with an X. Xylitol, found in various berries and vegetables, helps disrupt plaque which causes tooth decay. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 25% of all youngsters between the ages of two and five show signs of tooth decay.

For kids between twelve and fifteen, that number rises to 50%. It is the most common cause of tooth loss in children. Sugar is famous for promoting tooth decay by feeding the bacteria that cause it. On the other hand, a natural, plant-based sweetener called xylitol helps prevent the erosion of tooth enamel that leads to cavity formation.

Look for products containing xylitol,  like chewing gum, mints and toothpaste. Xylitol is also found in granular form as a sugar substitute AND can be taken as a supplement. Want a filling-free smile?

Cut the sugary snacks, see the dentist regularly and let xylitol help protect your teeth between visits.
