Eating for Cancer Recovery

Read Now

Did you know what you eat could help speed your recovery from cancer?

Much research shows that foods we eat can dramatically impact our risk of developing cancer as well as our success at surviving over the long term after a cancer diagnosis. Eating nutritious foods, however, is not always a simple solution for people who are recovering from cancer. After many cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy, patients can experience a change in their taste buds. Foods may have no flavor at all or even taste like metal.

Chemotherapy can cause digestive changes as well. In general people going through chemo need to eat easy to absorb, nutrient dense foods. It is important to stay away from highly processed foods like refined flours and sugar but instead focus on protein.

Small frequent meals may help ward off nausea and bland foods are typically tolerated better than spicy foods. Ginger often helps with nausea. Supplementing with probiotics and L-glutamine are also helpful.

Try eating a large variety of colorful fruits and veggies plus nuts, beans and good fats.
