Digestive Enzymes

Read Now

Did you know what happens in your stomach actually affects your brain?

Sometimes known as the “second brain”, your gut contains more nerve cells than your entire spinal cord, which means you need to keep it healthy. One way is through the use of digestive enzymes. Secreted in saliva and by the pancreas, digestive enzymes are specialized proteins that help break apart food during digestion.

Without enzymes to process the protein, fats and carbohydrates you eat, complete digestion simply can’t occur – and that can leave you feeling gassy, bloated, and suffering from post-meal indigestion. Unfortunately, cooking and processing can destroy the enzyme levels – the older we get, the lower our levels.

But supplemental enzymes can help. One study found that subjects who took an enzyme supplement after a high-calorie, high-fat meal had significantly less gas, bloating, and feelings of fullness. If you’re over 50, you suffer from frequent post meal stomach upset or you often have gas or belch after eating, consider a digestive enzyme supplement.
